Good Craic

Cliffs of Moher
Cliffs of Moher

Since I got back from Dublin on Monday, I’ve been trying to form a list (or even words) to describe my love for the place. Michela, Kim, Stas and I had a family dinner last night and I recruited them to help me.

We slept about eight hours in the three days we were in Ireland. I’m still tired from the weekend, but made some of the best memories of my life there.

Here’s why:

  • Good Craic (pronounced “crack”): fun and entertainment, especially good conversation and company
  • Everyone is so kind. Is it sad we’re surprised when a stranger is nice? Between Italy and France, we’ve run into some crabs.
  • Irish Pubs
  • Temple Bar

  • Temple Bar
  • Can you tell we liked Temple Bar?
  • Whelan’s (P.S. I Love You, anyone?)
  • Gerard Butler
  • Live music
  • The musicians
  • “Galway Girl”
  • Irish accents
  • Stag parties. Need we say more?
  • The Average Joe’s and Globo Gyms
  • Mini David
  • Food that isn’t a croissant, pasta or pizza
  • Beef Stew
  • Guinness
  • The Guinness Storehouse
  • Baby Guinness
  • Whiskey that burns your insides and a good history lesson differentiating whiskey and whisky
  • Cider
  • Cliffs of Moher
  • Stopping for traffic—cattle traffic
  • Sheep
  • Greenery
  • The sea
  • Soft serve
  • The Flake
  • Eddie Rockets
  • Carl and the Cash Cab
  • Entertaining bus commentary
  • Irish children waking us up bright and early—Josh and Coco (children of the Airbnb owners)
  • Laid back atmosphere
  • The people and their heritage
  • I’ve heard that when you go out in Dublin, you will always run into people you know. Even I, 5,000 miles from home, ran into a fellow Big Timberan and UMer in line to get tickets at the Guinness Storehouse. The world is getting smaller.

So if I don’t come back, I’ll be in Ireland.
